“The house reflects the master, perhaps no place more so than in the master bedroom. We envisioned a sailing enthusiast married to a patron of the performing arts. A love of elegance and grace meets a passion for the open sea. Truly, a union of Charleston’s past…and future.”
The Master Bedroom has four large windows, and I wanted to frame them without hiding the light. So, I chose to use simple Italian linen panels with a Greek key influenced cut velvet lead. The large scale is appropriate for the grand proportions of the room, while keeping the overall feel light and airy.
I love the fireplace, so I accentuated it with a silver metallic painted linen treatment. It is the only permanent wall treatment in the showhouse, and I think it is in keeping with the white and gray palette. Very subtle, but at night it shimmers beautifully.
All of the furnishings were chosen with strength and softness playing against one another. The feminine curve of the beautiful chandelier, and the striking X base of the studded bench beneath it, create contrast that I love.
ANNOUNCEMENT: We have been selected as a designer for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s 2016 Designer Showhouse! It is a great honor to work alongside many other talented designers on this year’s project.
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League’s 39th Annual Designer Showhouse at 156 Wentworth Street is an elegant antebellum Single House located in Harleston Village, one of historic Charleston’s oldest neighborhoods. Constructed circa 1851, the James Sanders House seamlessly blends beautiful period features with modern amenities.
This historic property has been transformed into a showcase by some of the Lowcountry’s most talented interior designers. From March 17 through April 17, the public will be invited to view their work from 10 am – 4 pm Monday through Saturday, and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday (closed Easter Sunday).
Featuring the epitome of 19th century elegance with 21st century style, the Designer Showhouse includes elegantly decorated rooms, a beautiful garden with gazebo and saline pool, an exclusive boutique, designer sales, and cafe.
Now in its 39th year, the League’s Designer Showhouse has been a major fundraising event for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and for music scholarships that total more than $30,000 annually.
